Katrina is no exception. On Hot Air America, they’re having a field day (or would be, if they weren’t so close to bankruptcy), spouting all kinds of nonsense they made up in their sick and twisted minds, such as how Bush is enjoying the devastation.
This isn’t surprising. Leftists have been slobbering at the mouth and having fits of insanity since the 2000 election. However, I do think there is something other than just “it’s all Bush’s fault!” going on.
If you peruse the liberal blogs, you’ll see Bush being blamed for everything, including not having enough National Guard troops, or not funding the levees in New Orleans. There’s something striking, and a bit unsettling here, considering that these are Americans saying these things.
Don’t they know the President of the United States is not a dictator? Aren’t they familiar with the separation of powers? Aren’t they aware that the distribution of federal funds is the business of Congress, and that the National Guard is under the control of the state governor?
I suspect the answer is that they don’t, and furthermore, they are projecting what they think the President should be onto reality.
If you think about this for a moment, you’ll be more than a little frightened.
Despite all the howling the leftists do about George “making the Executive branch more powerful” (when in fact he has been returning the Constitutional power to the Executive branch, after being weakened in the 70s and 90s), these people seem to think the President does, or should have, the power to call in the National Guard, allocate funds, in fact, do just about anything he wants.
That’s a scary thought. Remember Waco?
Were mistakes made that increased the chaos? Absolutely, though George Bush didn’t make them, and is in no way responsible. Governor Blanco bears the ultimate responsibility here, not Bush.
But whoever decided not to shoot looters on sight at the very beginning bears the most blame. Had this idiotic decision not been made, looting and crime would have been stopped in its tracks when five or six looters were shot and killed.
The question that needs to be answered is who made this decision? That’s whose head should roll.
