First, John Roberts is confirmed. Second, the hand-wringing leftist anti-American “freedom center” has been nixed from the Ground Zero memorial plans. I note, however, that Pataki didn’t have the nerve to mention why this “freedom center” was fought by so many. I assume he is too afraid of the Village Voice and the New York Slimes.
As for the Flight 93 memorial, I have mixed feelings. I heard a conservative say on the radio the other day that he changed his mind after going down there, and claimed that the crescent was more a function of the lay of the land than intentional design (he was talking about the crescent of maple trees, not the proposed memorial–whose design has also been nixed). He also said that there was no hand-wringing among the volunteers who work there every day, though that doesn’t surprise me, considering that the area is near Shanksville, about ninety miles from here. About the only thing I do have strong feelings about here is that we have had enough of this panty-waisted, new-age-y, pop psychology-y “healing” nonsense. We’re at war. It’s a time for anger and vengence. “Healing” is never appropriate for a war memorial.
So I’m going to go down there, maybe tomorrow. I want to just to do it, and I want to see if going there makes the issue any clearer for me.

Hooray! It will be nice to have someone I “know” looking the place over. From the designs I saw, it couldn’t be viewed as anything BUT a red crescent.
Hooray times 2!!!
Nice to see positive news once in a while! :)
Sure, but you realize nothing’s been built there, right? As I understand it, the only thing there is a bank of maples, and that the area is bowl-shaped. I’ll report back after I go down there. While I’m there, I’ll talk to the volunteers and see what they think about all this.
It’s a beautiful sunny day. 44 now, but it’s supposed to be 66. A good day to drive down there.
