From Andy McCarthy on the Corner:
This “bipartisan study group” approach that has real possibilities, no? Imagine …
WATERFRONT STUDY GROUP TO ISSUE RECOMMENDATIONS
The New York Times, Dec. 6, 2006
The bipartisan Waterfront Study Group has achieved consensus on a plan to address rampant crime on New York City’s docks. Its top recommendation will urge the Justice Department […]

There is nothing I dislike more than self-obsessed, narcissistic blogs that are the online equivalent of ESL journals. “Today, I woke up and had three cups of coffee and looked at myself in the mirror and thought how good looking I was …” as if anybody cared. I really, really, really hate that — and […]

Just when you thought liberals couldn’t get any stupider, they come along and break the record:
The Conservative government is taking women’s rights back into the Dark Ages by scrapping program funding and stripping department mandates, the Liberal women’s caucus charges. The group, headed by MP Belinda Stronach, released its Pink Book of policies intended to […]

The best of the screwball comedies of the 30s, in my opinion, is My Man Godfrey, the original 1936 movie with William Powell, Carole Lombard, Alice Brady, and Eugene Pallette. It’s surely one of the funniest films ever made, with exemplary performances from the whole cast (the remake isn’t worth watching if you’ve seen the […]

when you can post really old pictures of yourself without embarrassment. I just found a bunch of old family pictures I got when my mother passed away. Here’s Christmas dinner, from (gulp) 1960 (yeah, that would be 46 years ago, and yes, not only was I alive, but I’m in the picture):

And what’s really frightening is that this is the incoming chairman of the House Homeland Security Commission, Bernie Thompson:

The Republicans may be the party of stupid, but the Libertarians apparently require stupidity for membership. Remember that idiot Badnarik they thought they’d run for President, the guy who refused to get a drivers license? In Alabama, they decided to run the drugged out boob queen, Loretta Nall, whose sole platform was “Legalize drugs and […]

Discussing reality TV, Renaissance Blogger says:
He’s right. Too many of us, myself included at times, enjoy being voyeurs. We enjoy and are entertained by others tragedies and humiliation. This may come in the form of Cops or Dr. Phil or the countless entertainment gossip shows that infect the airways.
I think it’s moved beyond voyeurism to […]

No surprise here — French whiners:
“You can see discrimination in ID controls,†complained Kader Latreche, 36, an Algerian with his own photo equipment repair shop in the La Courneuve suburb. “Why is it always people from the Maghreb or black people who are being stopped and checked? If it happens over and over again, it […]

We live in central Pennsylvania, up in the Appalachians. The local place names, like Happy Valley, are a little misleading; “valley” implies, at least to me, a depression at the foot of the mountains. Many of the “valleys” here are elevated. The geography is interesting to watch as you drive here from Indiana. Two-thirds of […]

This theme (most, actually) uses HTML lists in the sidebar. The indentation is handled by the list code. So why, when I specify a text-align of right, do the lists not indent, but appear all flush right? Since the list code creates the indentation, shouldn’t the lists indent from the right?
