My grandmother was the cookie queen. She was always making cookies. For some reason, however, I inherited a defective cookie making gene, or something. My cookies are rarely edible. But it’s that time of year, so I decided to try my hand at cookies. I dug out my grandmother’s Betty Crocker cookbook (the 1951 edition), falling apart, but full of recipes she collected. And I found a recipe that sounded pretty good.

Sour cream drops.

The dough was really good. I was optimistic. But I’m sorry to say that I made a big batch of the world’s most boring cookies. Maybe the dogs will like them.

Sigh.

Actually, they were delicious. Gently sweet, and with a wonderful soft texture.

Cookies are ok. Just, whatever you do, never feed a dog bread dough! My mom did this once. She had some bread that didn’t appear to be rising. She thought maybe the yeast was no good. When she went to throw it out, my dog Leroy gave her the “look” and she fed it to him instead.

Later that day, we had a very expanded dog. We called the vet. After he finished laughing, he said to keep an eye on the dog for signs of distress. In the meantime, the dog vented out both ends - outside on the porch. Dog survived the ordeal, but did not stop begging for food.
