I’m not much of a Hilary fan, but I never thought Hilary would sink to Debbie Schlussel’s sewer-scum level. Hillary’s team has questions about Obama’s Muslim background:
Are the American people ready for an elected president who was educated in a Madrassa as a young boy and has not been forthcoming about his Muslim heritage?
This is the question Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton’s camp is asking about Sen. Barack Obama.
An investigation of Mr. Obama by political opponents within the Democratic Party has discovered that Mr. Obama was raised as a Muslim by his stepfather in Indonesia. Sources close to the background check, which has not yet been released, said Mr. Obama, 45, spent at least four years in a so-called Madrassa, or Muslim seminary, in Indonesia.
“He was a Muslim, but he concealed it,” the source said. “His opponents within the Democrats hope this will become a major issue in the campaign.”
My, my, what happened to diversity? And when Tits-On-A-Chair Schlussel was squealing about Obama’s middle hame, weren’t the leftists at HuffPo jeering about it? Let’s see . . . yup, they were.
So where are the objections now that Hilary’s doing it?

Hillary may be an astute politician, but she may also be cutting her own throat on this one. If DNC leaders are leaning toward backing Obama, then they could paint Hillary as a “racist” (I know that is an inappropriate label, but it seems to be applied to people who express anti Muslim sentiment) and effectively ostracize her. I think they will do this if they feel Obama is the better horse to back.
I wonder if this is a well planned act on Hillary’s part, or if she is feeling a little cornered. If it is well studied, if she has a good feel for American opinion (the lack of outcry would seem to indicate that) and her research shows that there is a very strong undercurrent of anti Muslim feeling (even though it may not be vocally expressed by “diversity” embracing Democrats), then (pardon my own bigotry) that is a good thing. It means Americans, even Democrats, still value self preservation over feel-good multiculturalism.

I don’t know why you were surprised. The Democrats are just as good at tearing each other apart as they are at casting stones at their opposition. I expect the campaign season to become increasingly nasty. If the Republicans are smart they will run a middle of the road ex-governor from outside the Beltway from a Middle American state. Frankly, it didn’t surprise me at all. What did surprise me was the puppy love that the media seems to have with Obama. Let’s see, he’s written a book, which now seems to be a Rite of Passage for an aspiring presidential candidate, he’s made speeches and been lauded by the press. What more can you ask for? To answer Hillary’s question, no, I don’t think that the American public is ready for a President Barack Hussien Obama. But also after the blood has dried don’t be surprised if one of two things happen”
January 20, 2007, 11:19 pm1. Hillary wins the nomination by a hair and asks Obama to run as a VP
2. Gore shows up as the spoiler in Iowa.
They could both happen, who knows.
Anyway you look at it, it’s gonna be a bumpy night.

As the resident Democrat (Sorry Right Wing Prof, but I am not a very good one), I predict it will backfire.
While Americans may have anti-muslim feelings, I think most will be repulsed about making an issue out of the school that Osama went to when he was 6 - 10 years old. Further more, 35 odd years ago, I doubt there was the same amount of hatred preached in these madrassa’s as there is today.

Sir you must remember that Saint Hilary can do no wrong.

I’m not surprised that a Democrat did it. I’m surprised that Hillary’s camp did it. Hillary is the most politically savvy person in the party right now. I think this will backfire, particularly with the people who would consider voting for her, and that’s why I’m surprised.
Hillary doesn’t have a chance, btw. If you think we mobilized against John Kerry, just wait and see what happens if Hillary gets the nomination.

Still, there are some interesting questions to be asked regarding this background.
Some of them relate to issues of religious freedom.

However, the one I find more intriguing is the question I raise at the end of this piece — about the ability of a Muslim apostate to conduct normal diplomatic relations with Muslim countries, based upon the status of Muslim apostates under sharia law.

And i’ll agree with you — as a supporter of Mitt Romney, I’ve been speaking out repeatedly against anyone’s religious background being used against them in a campaign for office. And that has included going after Ditzy Debbie Schlussel and her name game.

Ok… story exposed. Was a right wing attempt at a smear with the added bonus of blaming it on Hillary.
We can move on, because the whole concept of attacking someone for a school they attended as a child sort of creeped me out.
(Note: I know that the left wing also attempts smears, neither side is holier than thou)

I think the jury is still out. Fox News is standing by it’s leak from the Clinton Campaignistas. And face it, she has a history of dirty work in her background. She can try to squelch it as she did so many other things during her husband’s presidency, but I don’t think the boys in the party are going to play fair. Or at least fair according to her point of view. Like it or not, this story will grow with the internet. It’s about time the Democrats got a taste of their own nasty medicine. Sauce for the goose babe, sauce for the goose…..

Call me a racist if you will. I don’t care. If this guy was educated in a Muslim hate farm (madras) then he shouldn’t elected to anything. Islam is a dangerous hateful religion. I liken being a Muslim to being a Nazi. There is no such thing as an “ex” Nazi or Muslim. Once you join the evil ranks of either you are untrustworthy for life. Like the first commentor I could care less about being PC, I’m more interested in national preservation. Like it or not we are at war with Islam I don’t want the enemy at the wheel.
