Iowahawk has uncovered email between Queen Feminut and the Ambulance Chaser. But speaking of, you’ve no doubt noticed that I am one of a tiny handful of bloggers who has had nothing to say about Edwards’s choosing the Feminut as his campaign blogger. And there are two reasons for that.

  1. I really don’t care what staff the Breck Girl hires. Not at all.
  2. The nuttier the staff he hires, the better it is for us. So why all the high-profile blogging about the Feminut? Why not just smile, sit on our hands, and watch her crash the Ambulance Chaser’s campaign with her idiocy?

Real television resumed last night — though I admit, I was getting pretty disgusted with this season, and if the eternal victimization of the Survivors doesn’t end soon, I will be finished watching Lost.

Yes, I watch American Idol, though I was so disgusted by last season’s contestants — particularly the idiot who won — that this season, I despise all contestants on basic principle until they give me reason not to.

You won’t see me blogging about it, unless we get another crop of loser, no-talent, one-trick ponies like we got last season. If that happens, I’ll go nuclear.

As Jonah Goldberg said, Why We Have A Death Penalty:

PITTSBURGH — The father of a young girl who died of exposure had knocked her unconscious because he was angry she wouldn’t go to bed, then took her outside in freezing temperatures and left her there, police said before the man’s arraignment Thursday.

Nyia Miangel Page, who was about to turn 2, was found dead Sunday on a wooded knoll about a 10 minute walk from the family’s home. Tiny footprints in the snow suggested she had gotten up and wandered around before she died, police said.

Her father, William Lorenzo Page, 23, of Braddock, was arrested on charges of criminal homicide, kidnapping, false reports and simple assault.

I don’t know if Jonah has seen this:

Police this morning charged a 19-year-old with criminal homicide in the shooting deaths of a McKees Rocks couple.

Marcus Early, of Moon Township, was arraigned on two counts of criminal homicide, robbery and a weapons violation.

A relative found the bodies of Christina Law, 33, and Cardell Gary, 24, inside their McKees Rocks home yesterday afternoon. Their 2-year-old daughter hovered nearby, but was not injured, police and friends said.

A short rope and a long drop.

Macaroni and Cheese

More often than not, we had Kraft from a box, but every once in a while, my mother would make it from scratch. She always used long macaroni instead of elbow, but I haven’t seen it in the stores in years. I like my cheddar sharp, and strongly prefer Vermont white cheddar — there are few things that bring as much joy as a good, sharp Vermont white cheddar — but if you’re from a yellow cheddar state, or want your mac ‘n cheese to be yellow, I suppose you can substitute. Sharp Black Diamond is an excellent cheese.

1 1/2 c. macaroni
2 T. butter
1 T. flour
1 t. dry mustard
1 c. milk
4 oz. (1 c.) shredded cheddar
salt and pepper

2 slices bread, pinched up
4 T. butter

Preheat oven to 350.

Make the croutons. Melt the 4 T. butter and toss the bread around in it over medium-high heat until the bread just begins to brown and has absorbed all the butter. Remove from heat and reserve.

Add macaroni to boiling, salted water, and boil for exactly seven minutes. Drain.

While macaroni is cooking, melt the 2 T. butter in a saucepan and add the flour. Mix well to make a roux, then mix in the mustard. Turn heat high and add the milk, stirring, until the sauce thickens and begins to boil. Add the cheese, turn the heat very low, cover, and let sit for a couple of minutes so the cheese will melt.

Mix the sauce well to fully incorporate the cheese and salt and pepper to taste, then mix the sauce and macaroni and pour into a buttered baking dish. Top with the buttered croutons and bake for about 20 minutes, until bubbly and the top is browned.

It’s supposed to get up to 24 today! I’m going to go sit on the back porch in my shorts and a T-shirt!

They’re freezing in Hawaii:

HONOLULU (KHNL) - Spring is nearly upon us, but a chill is sweeping the state.

With temperatures dipping into the 50’s in some neighborhoods people are talking about the cold spell.

My heart bleeds.

The nanny state marches on. From Alpha Patriot:

South Dakota Rep. Mary Glenski (D-Sioux Falls) introduced a bill that would tax free speech in the form of political advertising.

New York Sen. Carl Kruger (D-Brooklyn) is planning to introduce legislation making it illegal to be using an iPod, telephone, Blackberry, or any other electronic device when crossing the street.

New York City Council member Gail Brewer is proposing legislation that would ban “ultrathin” fashion models.

And wait, there’s more!

Democrats love to talk about our supposed lost freedoms in the wake of September 11th. But they have no problem trying to regulate the most mundane details of our day-to-day lives. In California, a Democrat-sponsored bill would outlaw incandescent lights and force everyone to live in homes with doctor’s office lighting. And now, a New York Democrat is trying to make it illegal to cross a street while listening to music or talking on the phone.

Add that to the growing list of other ways the nanny-politicians want to regulate our lives (banning the use of trans-fats in restaurants, removing foie gras from the menu, outlawing smoking in your home and your car, etc., etc.), and it’s pretty clear where our freedoms are really being lost.

But if you think about it, we should really be grateful. We’re too stupid to make these decisions on our own. We might hurt ourselves. Or someone else. Or maybe even a poor, defenseless goose. Thankfully, we have the crushing embrace of the nanny state to protect us from the horrors of the world.

Thankfully, indeed — and thankfully, the GOP is jumping on the nanny state bandwagon!

First thing in the morning: No hot water. Great. So I called the plumber as soon as they opened, was told they were extremely busy, and then I said I had an appointment with the doctor at 11, so anything would have to be in the afternoon. She said she’d call me back.

She did, about thirty minutes later, and said the plumber would be here sometime in the afternoon. So I take a cold (as in very cold) shower and go to see the doctor.

I was expecting my meds to be delivered while I was at my appointment.

I went, and of course, this is the first time I had to wait — almost thirty minutes (it’s a specialist, and they always take me the minute I walk in). We go over the test results, etc., and I go back home.

No meds delivered. Well, it was only 12:30, so I didn’t get nervous. About 1:00, the woman from the plumber called to see if I was home yet (she’d apparently called while I was at my appointment). She said he’d be there as soon as he was finished with the job he was on. Thirty minutes later, she called again to say he was on his way.

Bad news. We needed a new water heater. So all afternoon was getting the new water heater, taking the old one out, putting the new one in, etc.

Still, no meds, and I was getting nervous. I called the pharmacy and got the tracking number. UPS.com said the shipment had gone out for delivery at 8:40 am. It was mid-afternoon.

Another hour passed (water heater still going in in the basement). No meds. Another hour. No meds.

The water heater was in and that was over about 4:00. UPS delivered the meds sometime between 4:30 and 5:00.

But it’s not over. The new water heater is leaking. So I’m going to call the plumber as soon as it’s 9:00 . . .
