Tell me I didn’t just see what I thought I saw. Did they just kill off Starbuck?
That’s what it looks like, though it wouldn’t make any sense, even in the context of the same episode. You have to be careful killing off main characters on a character-driven show like BSG — particularly one of the strongest, most popular characters. If she just committed suicide, what was the motivation?
And what about the “Kara’s destiny” meme that was so central to this episode? Kill Starbuck, and you kill her destiny — so it couldn’t have been very important.
But I don’t see how she could have been saved. BSG doesn’t have transporters. There was a Cylon Raider there (at least according to Starbuck), so it’s conceivable that the Cylon could have saved her, which makes more sense when you consider that the Oracle told her that Leoben Conoy was coming for her.
I guess we’ll just have to wait and see (Battlestarwiki is offline, so I can’t check for further information there).

I have to stop watching this show.
Seriously.

Of course they killed Kara Thrace.
That’s precisely the kind of thing they would do.
She’ll be back next year, haunting the show as some kind of Cylon-human hybrid or god-knows-what.
She’ll mope.
She’ll tear up.
Perhaps she’ll grow her hair out again.
What she won’t be is jaunty.

she’ll just be a complete pain in the tuchus (sp?)
