It’s amazing what idiots people can be–even cops. I was watching one of those forensics shows and, well, let me summarize it for you.
Husband calls police, says his wife has been shot. Police arrive and take husband’s statement: “I had finished cleaning this old shotgun and my wife was looking at it and it went off by itself.”
And what’s the idiot part? The cops listed it as an accident (the only reason it was solved was because other people realized what idiots the cops were being and raised so much hell they reopened the case).
If he had finished cleaning the shotgun, then there is no way it could have been loaded.
If she was looking at it, why was she holding the barrel pointing toward her torso? Who looks at any kind of firearm like that? What was she looking at, the muzzle?
Had this happened in California, I wouldn’t be nearly so critical of the cops, since it’s likely the only exposure they’d had to firearms was from their instructors. But this was somewhere in the south, ferchrissakes. Anybody with the intelligence of a green bean and any exposure to firearms should have known the husband’s story was bovine excrement from the beginning, and investigated it. And of course when they did investigate it, the evidence clearly showed that the husband had murdered his wife.
Idiots.
