I’m not seeing anything about this on any of the Pennsylvania blogs, or the gun blogs. Not on Cam Edwards, or Bitch Girls, or even the NRA–and Wyatt hasn’t even mentioned it!
The Philadelphia City Council bozos passed gun control legislation in direct violation of the state constitution, with full knowledge that it was in direct violation of the state constitution:
City Council unanimously passed eight long-delayed gun control bills yesterday, deliberately picking a fight with lawmakers in Harrisburg who have consistently refused to give Philadelphia the right to enact its own gun laws.
But wait, because it gets better. These bozos are filing a lawsuit against the state because the state constitution wont allow them to violate any liberty they want. I guess they don’t understand why the state constitution exists.
And all apologies to Wyatt, but I think as long as I’m in Pennsylvania, I’ll stay here and not contemplate moving to Philly.

I’ll be following the issue over at my blog. Street has yet to sign these bills, so they are not yet full ordinances. Street will likely sign, but it won’t matter, because it’s well established in both statute and in the courts that Philadelphia may not regulate guns. The real fun will come if they actually try to enforce these.

I heard rumblings about this, but ignored it. Philadelphia City Council is completely irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. Why? Because I can go out into my Division right now and be back with 5 guns in two hours.
Gun ban my ass. Are the criminals going to abide by that? Doubt it.

And herein is one of the inherent weaknesses of representative democracy, a weakness considered by the founders. If the people will not act in concert against those who knowingly and blatantly act against liberty, particularly inalienable rights, of what value is freedom?
It’s one thing to pass unconstitutional legislation with good intentions, particularly if the fact of said unconstitutionality is not clearly deliniated and will be a public good if the legislation helps a higher court to more clearly draw the line. It’s even not terribly egregious if an unconstitutional law is passed by those who are just too dumb to know better. But in this case, not only do the legislators know better, they’re doing what is illegal and damned proud of it.
I don’t suppose it would be too much to ask to have legislators make criminal the knowing imposition of illegal legislation? Can the legislators police the legislators? Nah. There is but one solution: At the next available election, throw the rascals out!

[…] Pennsylvania suffers from Multiple Personality Syndrome, and it’s just weird. On one hand, we have the diapered, bed-wetting bozos in Filthadelphia Philadelphia, who pull stunts like this. On the other hand, well, let me show you. Here I am, dead in the middle of the state–and note this well–in a college town. You’d expect this to be a hotbed of leftists in dreadlocks, right? […]

If the City Clowncil don’t like the laws of the State of Pennsylvania, why don’t they just secede and request annexation by New Jersey. That way they will have all the idiotic state gun control laws they want and the other citizens of Pennsylvania will be glad to see them go.

I don’t want them to secede. Then I can’t carry in Philadelphia, and I have to count on FOPA when transiting from my house to points south.
