If this is the comment of the week, here’s the quotation of the week, from our favorite Philly cop:
Obviously, something is seriously wrong in this town. The murder rate is skyrocketing, and the politicians (both at the local and state level) are trying to clamp down on legal gun owners. Now, my regular readers have heard me shout this from the top of One Liberty Place, but it bears repeating (and re-repeating): the law-abiding gun owners are not the ones murdering people like it’s going out of style! It’s the thugs that buy the illegal guns on street corners and back alleys! Got it?!!!
Until the idiot politicians find a way to collect and destroy all of the illegal firearms, they should stop worrying about all of the citizens carrying legal firearms.

From Right on the Left Coast:
When these teachers say, “We are tired of teaching to the test, it doesn’t give us a chance to delve deeply into other things.” What they mean is, “We can no longer show movies.”

Don Surber:
In December, California banned all import of of electricity from coal, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.
In September, California are worried about a shortage of electricity in some areas, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.
You don’t think the two could be related?
Gee, Don. Ya think?

Sebastian, via Lott, has an article about (surprise) more faculty being mouth-breathing, chin-drooling, idiots:
At a special meeting on Friday, the University of Northern Iowa Faculty Senate voted overwhelmingly against arming campus police.
The senate debated the issue for nearly an hour late in the afternoon as the campus emptied for the long holiday weekend. Ultimately, it decided the university would be safer if campus police did not carry guns.
There’s a limit to how st00pid one can get, and this approaches that limit. However, they do get even st00pider:
Social work professor Katherine van Wormer said UNI regularly rates as one of the safest campuses in the country, and murders at colleges nationwide are extremely rare. She added that national statistics show African Americans are more likely to be shot by police than a white suspect.
This is one of those statements presented as fact that really sets off my horse manure alarm bells, you know, like the “women get only 75 cents for every dollar a man makes.” Since the Department of Justice publishes data online, I thought I’d check this statement.

So not only are Law Enforcement Officers not more likely to shoot black felons, as this idiot faculty member claims, but they are 6.07 times more likely to shoot white felons. What’s really sad is that both the "reporter" who wrote this story and the editor were too lazy to check the facts — which took all of five minutes.
