I’m A VICTIM!

Another phony crime victim, this one local:

A woman falsely reported a sexual assault when she told Penn State police a man attacked her from behind Aug. 30 in a Beaver Stadium parking lot, university police said Friday.

The woman had reported to police that a strange man — whom she did not get a good look at but was taller than 5 feet, 5 inches, was white and smelled of cigarette smoke — followed her to her car, told her he had a knife and sexually assaulted her, police said.

After a thorough investigation, Penn State police spokesman Tyrone Parham said university police have determined that the woman was not sexually assaulted on campus and the report “proved to be not true.”

After being re-interviewed, the woman admitted the assault had not happened, Parham said. That, and no evidence of the crime, prompted police to issue a release to the community saying the crime never occurred, he said.

So what secret thrill do these scumbags get from playing victim? Fortunately, it looks like the prosecutor may do the right thing:

The main concern at the moment is informing the community of the development, Parham said, but police may consider pressing charges against the woman for falsely reporting a crime. They would consult with the Centre County District Attorney’s Office before filing charges, Parham said.

District Attorney Michael Madeira said the matter needs to be looked into.

“When they bring the appropriate facts and circumstances to me, I’m sure we’ll take the time to do that,” Madeira said.

These people not only need to be prosecuted and given maximum penalties, but then institutionalized once they get out of jail.

One Bright Spot Yesterday

I was inspired by the News Junkie’s menu. So we had ribeyes, corn (corn every week as long as it’s available at the farmers’ market), and cole slaw.

I started chicken stock (we’re out) around 4:30 am. It’s bubbling on the stove now. Maybe I’ll make chicken and dumplings. With mashed potatoes, of course. Can’t have chicken and dumplings without mashed potatoes.

Provider Update

Like I said, I contacted several recommended providers. I got a response from one, Dreamhost. Their Level 3 service looks like a deal:

$15.95 two-year prepayment, no setup fee, and the price won’t go up, for

291.2 GB of storage, that increases weekly by 2 GB.
2.912 TB of bandwidth, that increases weekly by 32 GB.
Unlimited MySQL databases
6 email accounts
Procmail and spam assassin
Unlimited domains, subdomains, and domain forwards/mirrors
PHP5
Unix shell (Oh, thank you God! Thank you!)

I’m about a half inch away from signing up. I figure I’ll give my current provider till 8 am to at least reply. No reply, no business. Bye-bye. Gone.

Down Time

Yesterday morning — almost exactly 24 hours ago — I tried to upgrade my wordpress installation with fantastico. Fantastico, which should be called Sucksdonkeyd1ksico, trashed the blog. So I emailed support.

I got one of those automatic responses, but nothing from an actual support person for two hours. Twelve hours later, the blog was back up and running — but not upgraded.

Twenty-four hours later and it’s still not upgraded. I sent support a pretty snippy message, and told them if I was not upgraded and running smoothly this morning, I’d be changing providers. I have not received a reply to that message.

So I’ve been doing research. I found a few recommended providers, and emailed them. I figure if they’re a serious business, instead of yet one more hippie-dippie-doo Sillycon Valley commune, it won’t make any difference that I emailed them at 5 am. A serious business wants customers, and will respond, 5 am or not. The hippie-dippie-do DNA wastes will either be passed out or sucking at a bong.

We’ll see.
