I doubt it led to his demise, but it is interesting to me that someone can immerse himself into an artificial identity so fully. That was probably the weakest part of the movie - setting up their prisoner's dilemma, and getting there by moving really fast so that nobody has a chance to go "hey, wait a minute" before the plot barrels along without them.
