Seen this, Daley?

Municipalities concerned about violent crime rates in their communities and dismayed at the Supreme Court finding in Heller that cements a public right to legal gun ownership would be wise to point themselves towards Richmond, Virginia for a dose of common sense. The capital legislature of the Old Dominion teamed with local, state and federal law enforcement to 1) enact, and 2) vigorously prosecute strict laws concerning the criminal possession and use of firearms. Violent crime in what was once the country’s third most dangerous city has dropped over 50%. By 2007, Richmond had dropped off the list of the top 25 most dangerous cities. This in a state with some of the most liberal gun ownership laws in the country.

What is it about cities that turns the inhabitants into drooling idiots, anyway?

With DNC in mind, city bans carrying urine, feces. No comment necessary.

The McCain campaign on Paris Hilton’s video:

McCain’s spokesperson Tucker Bounds (said) that on the subject of energy, Paris is deeper than Barack. He says, “Sounds like Paris is taking the ‘All of the Above’ energy approach that John McCain has advocated—both alternatives and drilling. Perhaps the reality is that Paris has a more substantive energy plan than Barack Obama.”

And if you think Congress should be working, instead of shopping at the Mall or promoting their #1409-on-Amazon-stinker books, sign the petition.

Why education funding should be cut, not expanded:

In the 2007-08 fiscal year, not surprisingly, the NEA spent $2.3 million — on top of $1 million spent the previous fiscal year — fighting a school voucher referendum in Utah.

Money blown on crap that has nothing to do with education? Check.

uring the current fiscal year the NEA sent the Hawaii State Teachers Association $20,000 to conduct polling on a state constitutional convention.

Money blown on crap that has nothing to do with education? Check.

It [NEA] sent the Massachusetts Teachers Association $60,000 to oppose a state income-tax repeal.

Money blown on crap that has nothing to do with education? Check.

And it [NEA] sent the Florida Education Association $200,000 to oppose property-tax cuts in the Sunshine State.

Money blown on crap that has nothing to do with education? Check.

It’s a shame the NEA doesn’t spend as much money and effort trying to improve lousy schools as it does trying to keep taxes high.

Indeed. One word: PATCO. Darren has a partial list of the ways the NEA throws away their money on things that don’t have a damned thing to do with education.

Boehner reports:

One item of interest for this afternoon: At 3pm Speaker Pelosi will be participating in a question and answer session on WashingtonPost.com to promote her new book.

There isn’t a Democrat in the House. They’re at the Mall. And promoting their books.

I didn’t like the drop caps, so I got rid of them.

I just checked my site stats, and more than 95% of the readers use at least a 1024×768 resolution. So I’m changing the resolution to 1024 width. If anybody reads at 800×600 and is incredibly annoyed by the wider resolution, email me, and I’ll come up with a fix.

Oh. The new theme. It’s completely configurable from the admin screen. No code writing. I really like that.

Take the quiz and find out (with a hat tip to Jeff Foxworthy). Related, there’s no there there, about the Democrats’ strawman arguments. It’s appropriate, since according to the left (see the quiz), if you have a brain, you’re a racist.

Sometimes you have to, like if you want a Chicago-style pizza here. Thin, wussy, New York style pizza is fine, I guess, but I’ve been wanting a pizza with guts for some time, and around here, the only thing I can do is make it myself.

Recipe here.
