Forgive The French
but hell, yes!
If you’re wondering why the outburst, then you didn’t see the travesty the night before last, when the Pens lost to the New Jersey Devils. No, they didn’t lose. They didn’t do anything. Penn State could have smeared them all over the rink that night. They skated around in a trance. It was one great big long put your head in your hands and cry moment.
And I thought the Buffalo game stank.
To be fair, I suspect it was something related to the moon, or maybe some weird planetary alignment, since on the same night, the Bruins lost to the Capitals. Yes, you read that right. Boston actually lost to the frakking Capitals.
But last night, that was the best hockey the Pens have played this year. Sure, sure, they were playing the Islanders, but the Pens won 9-2 not only or primarily because Long Island sucked so bad, but because they stayed aggressively on the offense all night. They kept control of the puck, moved it into the attack zone, and shot the net, again and again and again and again, all night. When the Islanders got the puck, the Penguins stole it back from them. When the Islanders scored their first goal, the Pens stepped it up, and less than two minutes later, scored. In another two minutes, the Pens scored yet again. They played hard, and they never let up. Curry did a helluva job keeping the puck out of the net, only allowing two goals.
And it wasn’t just the Dynamic Duo. Everybody on the team was on fire. Look at how many Pens scored points:
- Sykora
- Crosby
- Satan
- Malkin
- Goligoski
- Staal
- Dupuis
- Scuderi
- Talbot
- Cooke
- Boucher
- Orpik
Every forward on the team was shooting the goal. Speaking of forwards, where’s Godard? He didn’t play in the Devils game, and should have, because the Pens badly needed an enforcer on the ice. He didn’t play last night. I didn’t see him on the bench.
Anyway, it was a helluva game.
Sykora and Dupuis owned the night, both scoring their first NHL hat tricks. Actually, the referee nixed Sykora’s third goal in the second period, but he just kept driving the puck to the net and shooting it until bingo! he scored.
If you wanted to see insane, you should have seen the crowd at Mellon. They lost it when Sykora got his trick.
Like I said, hell yes!
The wild and crazy guys at Pensblog have more fun than usual with the game (don’t miss the pictures). Let’s see if the Pens can keep this up, because if they can, the Flyers had better watch out Saturday. And guess who’s going to be in the net?
