Speshul Kind Of St00pid
You’d think after losing money hand over fist for months, the idiots running Starbuck’s would get a clue. Well, they haven’t. In fact, this is the st00pidest thing they’ve done yet.
Good for McCafe, though.

Deception is playing on Cinemax this month. I watched it once, and just saw the last 45 minutes of it again. The three leads (Ewan McGregor, Hugh Jackman, and Michelle Williams) turn in first-rate performances, and it’s beautifully filmed. There is one huge problem, however.
The script.
It is, perhaps, the most predictable movie I’ve seen in […]

Today’s the Iowa game, and State College wants blood for last year. The traffic is going to be insane, so we’d better do errands now. At least after today, this ad won’t be running constantly on the local channels.

I won’t say I hated it, but I was disappointed. First, there was all of that pointless for-glitz-only technology (like CSI: Miami), and speaking of, Linda Hunt needs to go. Second, this is a Bellisario show? Where’s the military? Where’s the forensics?
Eh. It needs major changes.

Today is the first day in three weeks now that I can say I am better. No back pain, and the hip pain is a lot less than it’s been all day, every day, for three weeks.

See, this is what happens when you let students turn in late assignments, pat them on the head, and in general, just let them con you 24/7. The Dog Ate My Global Warming Evidence: Having Refused to Disclose Temperature Records for Years, UN’s Climate Research Unit Now Claims Its Evidence of Warming Was Just Lost.

I keep getting these “Joey Bouillabaise is following you on twitter!” messages, except that if I have a twitter account, it’s news to me (you have to have an account right? If not, how can you follow somebody?) Either it’s some sort of phishing (I haven’t read any of these messages), or somebody’s confused.

The obituary to a once grand automobile, now the American Yugo, and a tribute to the beautiful, classy, Dinah Shore, who passed away fifteen years ago. One of my earliest memories is of Dinah singing this jingle.

Not to steal Uncle’s line, but Obama is obviously compensating for his small penis.
Related, and also from Uncle, is this unsurprising but interesting poll.

There were 12 seniors on the Icers last year. This year’s team has a lot of new faces, and the Collegian’s hockey blog covers it here. More on BSD.
This season’s Icers schedule here.

Yeah, we lost (but not for lack of playing, and it’s preseason so it doesn’t count) but that game last night against Montreal was one hell of a game, especially that third period. That’s what you call fighting for the puck.
And steel yourselves for more hockey: The season starts in a week!

Ace likes Psych too.
Watching this in an hour, my favorite show on TV. The show seems like it was written, while drunk, in an hour. It’s slapdash, the mysteries are only occasionally clever, half the show is just the main character behaving like an utter jackass, but for some reason it works.
If you haven’t seen […]

From Pennsblog. “British hockey fans avoid knowing the score of 2009 game 7 so they can watch a rebroadcast at the Maple Leaf Pub in London, UK.” One is wearing a Steelers jersey.

Everybody needs to read this. Now. I didn’t read the comments, but I’m sure Ace is taking a lot of shit for it.

In the summer when network TV is on hiatus, cable channels run summer shows. I watched Burn Notice, but espionage ties as my least favorite forensic show type. Whatshisname is stiff and wooden and not very interesting, and by far the best thing about the show is Sharon Gless. She’s brilliant. The writing isn’t bad […]

Patrick Swayze passed away.
Actor Patrick Swayze died of pancreatic cancer on September 14, 2009 at the age of 57. Best known for his roles in Dirty Dancing and Ghost, Swayze had been diagnosed with a Stage IV case of the disease in January 2008, but continued to shoot episodes of his A&E series The Beast […]

From New York, March 23 2008.
Nearly every opera performance, even those that should not be, is flawed. One of the singers is not having a good night. The conducter is rushing the music. The soloists were excellent, but the chorus was not. After the performance, we are left saying, “If only . . .”
Take the […]

Somewhere around 450 AD (according to the Venerable Bede), the Celtic warlord Vortigern, embattled by the northern Picts, made a decision that would change the world: He invited the Frisian brothers Horsa and Hengest to bring their warriors across the sea as mercenaries and help him defeat the Picts. After the fierce northern Germanic warriors […]

That’s how many Terrible Towels were waving at the NFL season opener at Heinz last night. The Steelers canned the Titans 13-10 in an overtime game. Gee, this sounds familiar.

Let’s review some of the massively destructive, utterly unconstitutional, and wholly unacceptable parts of the so-called “healthcare” bill.
The “public option”
Forcing insurers to accept any applicant.
Mandatory insurance.
Tax-funded payments for those “unable” to pay.
Employer mandates.
So Obama gets up and does his little show last night, and with all of these things, Joe Wilson objects to Obama lying […]

Baron Hill’s latest display of arrogance at a townhall in Bloomington is probably the best news Mike Sodrel has had all year (video here, if you haven’t seen it). Seriously, when a Democrat gets trashed for his arrogance in the IU college newspaper editorial page, it’s time to hang it up.
